Curly Hair Loving Care: Training for Foster Care Agencies

 

Our Curly Hair Loving Care course is designed to equip resource parents and agencies with the necessary tools for cultural preservation in foster care. It is a deep dive into the fundamentals of hair care as well as the resource parent’s active role in supporting cultural identity and positive self image. 

This course involves candid discussions on cultural norms and nuances with real life scenarios to unpack, and an in-depth understanding of what textured hair and melanated skin needs to thrive.

About the Instructor 

Joy Hankins is the founder and CEO of The Joy of Curls, a plant-based textured hair brand with a mission to serve the foster care community.

Her credentials include:

• M.Ed. – Master’s Degree in Education with experience in designing and building cultural competency curriculum.

• Parent Education Specialist, professional trainer for school districts and agencies.

• Resource Parent providing foster care and recruiting diverse foster families. 

• Natural Hair Stylist, 18 years specializing in textured hair maintenance and care.

• Textured Hair & Skin Care Formulator, understanding of ingredients and product performance.

Joy’s teaching style is personal and practical, customizing each training experience to best suit the specific needs of her audience.
