Hey Curlfriend, I’m Joy!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated with hair, but when I attended a foster care certification training my relationship with hair changed forever.

It was in that training that I was told Black families are needed as foster parents to help children in care maintain cultural connections.  The first thing that came to mind was to offer hair styling lessons to resource parents.

Shortly after this began, I recognized just how hard it was to find clean textured hair products. Determined to find a solution, I hired a chemist to  formulate with plants and created The Joy of Curls, a hair and skin care brand with a mission to give back to the foster care community.

In addition to selling our plant-based goodies all over the world we continue to educate the foster care community about curly hair. 

We offer:

  • Virtual Curly Hair Classes for Caseworkers, Foster Parents and Adoptive Parents.
  • Workshops on Curls and Culture.
  • Workshops on Textured Hair and Melanated Skin Care.

We want to acknowledge and amplify our customer’s voices in all that we do.  For this reason, we’ve partnered with other black women owned businesses to enhance and support every aspect of building our brand. Our marketing team, creative director, chemist, and web designer are all innovative and talented black women. 

Our chemist was able to use personal knowledge of what works best in her own textured hair to formulate our ingredients, ensuring we have safe preservatives while mixing the best natural cocktails for your tresses.
